Founders Day 2022-Math and Science

Instill an Appreciation of the Natural World through supporting the Science Department

Biology & Biochemistry

This Founders’ Day, we are fundraising to expand our undergraduate research opportunities for science majors.

Through the generosity of a donor like you, we have a newly renovated science building that added new biochemistry and chemistry labs on the first floor and transformed existing second-floor chemistry labs into physics labs and classroom space. This renovation has improved the educational experience for our students and equips the faculty members in all of our science programs

Through the support raised during last year’s Founders’ Day Challenge, we were able to purchase a large piece of laboratory equipment and able to fund the Teaching Assistant Program.

When you make a gift today, your gift will provide the necessary support to:

  • Replace old equipment in the Biology and Physics labs
  • Provide ongoing materials for physics and biology classes such as the specimen the students dissect and the disposable cleaning and protective materials used.
  • Fund undergraduate research and give students an experience that will help them in their future studies.
  • Help expand the Teacher Assistant Program.

Mathematics and Physics

Through Mathematics and Physics students come to understand mathematical language and ideas, which will promote abstract reasoning and quantitative literacy.

When you make a gift today, your gift will provide the necessary support to:

  • Improve our chemistry labs with new equipment and instruments.
  • Fund Undergraduate Research in both mathematics and physics.
  • Send students to conferences to present their research papers and learn from others in their field.

Your gift, of any amount, will raise the next generation of ethically-minded doctors, nurses, chemists, biologists, and physicists!

And, as a special thank you during the Founders’ Day Challenge, with a gift of $25 or more to the Science Department you receive a limited edition baseball cap of your choosing.

“The biology department at the Abbey is truly phenomenal. The small class sizes allow you to have a close relationship with all your classmates and professors. Every professor will push you towards success in academics and knowledge, and your future vocation, in a challenging but supportive environment. The curriculum is engaging, has a practical application, including current and relevant research, and of course a daily historical fact by Dr. McLeod.”

“The Biology major at Belmont Abbey has allowed me to grow during the course of my studies by offering me a place that has challenged academically and allow me to develop as a person, student, and an aspiring professional. Whether it was attending lectures and labs, talking with my professors, or interacting with my peers, I am thankful for all of my experiences at Belmont Abbey College.”

“As a Biology major, I am so glad I chose Belmont Abbey. I am grateful for the challenging nature of my courses, which is preparing me well for my next step: PA school. The rigor of my classes requires hard work, which inspires me to improve my work ethic and become a better student. For example, my Cell Biology class had very difficult tests that motivated me to learn how to study more effectively. Furthermore, I truly feel seen and loved by all of my teachers, who go out of their way to ensure their students do well. I know that my Biology professors want to see me succeed in and out of the classroom. Being at a smaller school like Belmont Abbey allows me to have personal connections with my professors, which I believe is key to getting the most out of my education.”
